The Balvatika Programme focuses on children aged 5-6 years. In collaboration with state governments in India, it offers an integrated one-year programme to foster school readiness across all domains of development. It emphasises a play-based learning approach, which strikes a balance between: Free Play, Guided Play, and Structured Play. This balanced approach ensures an engaging and holistic learning experience for children. To support this, LLF has developed materials aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS).

What we do
We work with the state governments of Assam, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh to develop Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum and materials, improve teachers’ professional skills, and strengthen mentoring mechanisms.
We are focused on structured, high-quality ECCE intervention for 5-6 year-old children (Balvatika 3) undertaken by state governments in primary schools.
We provide a stimulating environment for each child’s holistic development through play-based teaching-learning processes.
We also implement an ECCE demonstration programme in 100 schools of Kurukshetra, Haryana for children of ages 5-6 years.
2030 MISSION
By 2030, we will reach 35 million children by influencing classroom practices of more than 2 million teachers and teacher educators
